HP Officejet 6500 Wireless All-in-One Inkjet Printer

Let me start by saying that I bought this printer after seeing many positive reviews and even finding it marked as a "best buy" from highly respectable third party testing website. I bought it because of the extremely high cartridge capacity it advetised. Despite the high cost of cartidges, this should've resulted in a lower cost pre page than most printers on the market. Additionally, the copy quality has been rated very high. I did extensive ratings searches and compared this printer in person to multiple comparative models in other brands. Additionally, I appreciated that this was being listed as a "green" piece of hardware - presumably because of low energy consumption and efficient use of ink, etc. Well, let me tell you the reality of using this particular printer:

1. The print cartridge capacity is no where near what is listed. Probably close to half of what is listed. Perhaps you could get the correct capacity if you used draft printing but I attempted this once to find the print virtually unreadable. Essentially, you can either have the printer capacity or the print quality but not both. I found this to be extremely misleading and felt I have been lied to by the company. This also

2. The scanning on this machine is completely horrible. If you scan a lot of documents, run far, far away from this machine. First, you must open the HP solution Center which takes a few moments to load. You also cannot start the scanning process without the CD in the drive. If there is a way around this, I would very much like to know why this was not a standard part of the install for an all-in-one printer. So, once you have the solution center open and the CD in. You hit "Scan" and it scans the document and you're done right? No. First, when you hit the first scan button, a loading screen opens up which says, "Windows preparing scan." You see the load bar go to full at least 5-10 times at which point a second prompt window appears in which you can select a variety of options such as the dpi, file type, etc. Then you get to click another button that says "Scan." Done right? No. Then the "Windows preparing scan" window opens again. This time, it loads another 10-15 times (yes you read that correctly). I timed this with a stop watch, completing no options on the scan menu so as to not add time with any human processing time. From the time I hit the first scan button to the time it actually started scanning my document, 1 minute and 20 seconds had passed. The printer then proceeded to scan my 11 page document through the document feeder (admittedly a very nice feature). Once finished, the HP Solution Center provides me with a preview of my scan. You select finish and you are done right? No. Then the HP solution center proceedsin "preparing" each page individually which then takes a few more minutes. In all, from the time I hit scan to the time I actually had a PDF file, this printer took no less than 10 minutes to complete the task for an 11 page document. Completely unacceptable unless this were 1990.

3. I have a small child sleeping in the next room when I do a large portion of my work at night. This printer is so loud, it can wake the dead.

4. Shortly after purchasing this printer, I heard on the radio that HP recently outsourced thousands of jobs overseas.

In short, this printer takes a lot of my precious time. It costs me more money in ink than it advertised. And it is made from a company that does not manufacture a large portion of its products in the US anymore.

The minor plus sides to this printer which can arguably be found on other models:

1. nice print quality when set to "auto"
2. Relatively fast printing.
3. the document feeder and paper feeder are decent and nice to have.
4. Duplex printing a nice feature.

For these latter points, I give it a 2 out of 5. If I were using this as virtually only a printer and the other features were for "in case" situations, this would be an okay buy. For someone who desires to use all of the robust features an all-in-one has to offer, this is gets a "run as fast as possible" rating.

HP Officejet 6500 Wireless All-in-One Inkjet Printer

My printer crashed, so I bought this because of low ink usage. I spent over an hour on line with an HP tech trying to get the wireless to work right. The person had no idea how to get it to work, plus he had to have been helping someone else on line, because it took at least 5 minutes between each responce. I finally figured out on my own how to get it to connect to my network and work with my computers. I print alot of card and envelopes. This printer will not work with any of my Card software when it comes to printing an envelope. It just keeps saying I'm using the wrong type of paper. I tried to change the paper type on the printer. That didn't work. I am puting this back in the box and returning it.Buy HP Officejet 6500 Lowest Price, Order Now! [Click Here!]

Works fine setup great BUT HP Does not have a set of drivers for windows 7. The printer will work with the drivers provided on the w7 installation disk but the HP software provided does NOT work. The HP web site says late November before W7 drivers are available. Wait Wait WaitBuy HP Officejet 6500 Lowest Price, Order Now! [Click Here!]

HP Officejet 6500 Wireless All-in-One Inkjet Printer

The first thing you'll notice about the printer is how hideously complicated it is. There is a huge "control panel" on the front with row upon row of buttons, dials, readouts, and keypads. I suppose this printer "does it all" if you can ever figure out how it all works.

And the real kick in the pants is that this is pretty much their flagship inkjet printer, yet it does not support windows 7. If you try to follow their directions in setting it up, and insert the disk that comes with it, it will tell you you are basically out of luck.

One of the real ironies about this product too is that to get to the user manual, you need to install the software, and the software won't install because it tells you that it doesn't support windows 7. AAARGH! I definitely regret buying this printer.Buy HP Officejet 6500 Lowest Price, Order Now! [Click Here!]
